The Todds Leap Staff have an eventful year of fundraising ahead of them in 2014, kicking off with Ben’s “Sam to the Summit” Challenge on the 16th of May.
SAM TO THE SUMMIT is a unique event which sees 32 All-Ireland Medals, medal holders and the Sam Maguire make their way to the peak of Carrantuohill and Ben himself will be taking with him his father’s All-Ireland Medal.
Ben’s Challenge is in aid of Alan Kerins Projects, which is a development organisation that works to improve the lives of those living in poverty in the developing world. The main focus of the project has been on working in poor communities, in partnership with organisations representing the most vulnerable young people in those communities, particularly in Zambia.
THE FIVE PEAKS CHALLENGE: In June our instructor, Phillip, will be taking part in The Five Peaks Challenge which is spread over a 6 day period and involves climbing the highest mountains in Northern Ireland, Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales over one exhilarating weekend.
This challenge is in aid of ABF (The Soldiers Charity) who offer support to the men and women who put everything on the line to defend us, and our country.
THE PLOD IN THE MOURNES: On the 13th of June four of our staff dare to take on the tough, gruelling and painful task of taking on the Mourne Mountains on a 50km walk starting at Midnight. Lee, Laura, Shane and Mel will need to have their wits about them as they take on this demanding challenge!
It is all for a good cause though as it is in aid of Action Medical Research, which is a UK-wide charity saving and changing children’s lives through medical research. For over 60 years they have been saving and changing lives through medical research and have spent over £100m, funding some amazing breakthroughs.
VOLUNTEER UGANDA: In September our young instructor Molly will be volunteering in Uganda for 12 weeks. There she will voluntarily teach local primary school children and be heavily involved in an awareness programme for the HIV and Aids.
Volunteer Uganda is an award winning group of organisations dedicated to supporting communities in southwest Uganda in their efforts to rise out of poverty. It will be a brilliant experience for Molly and we wish her all the best.
