This week, St Ciaran’s College, Ballygawley and Aughnacloy College have teamed up with Todds Leap Activity Centre to deliver an exciting cross-community day of sport for year 8 students from both schools. This was made possible when St Ciaran’s Connected, the school’s PTA successfully secured funding through the Central Good Relations Funding programme from the Executive Office.
Year 8 students from Aughnacloy College travelled to St Ciaran’s College for this fun filled day which embraced the theme of Good Relations and explored this through sports. Taster sessions in Rugby, Gaelic football, Hockey and Camogie were delivered and all students had great fun trying some new sports and showing off developed skills in others. Along with the taster sessions, the students unleashed their competitive side as they competed against their classmates in the Todds Leap bungee run and body zorbing! During the sports day, staff from both schools and Todds Leap helped the young people understand what is meant by Good Relations and how the project will unfold.
This sports day is just the beginning of both schools working together as they embark on a yearlong project together. The project aims to encourage integration between the young people of Aughnacloy College and St Ciaran’s College, Ballygawley, to provide opportunities to use shared spaces and incorporate Good Relations through the whole local community. This will be achieved by shared visits and workshops in drama, dance, music and Good Relations.
