Congratulations to Portadown man, Colin Turkington who takes maiden BMR win at dramatic Donington Park. Todds Leap, proud sponsors of Turkington, felt sponsorship was a good fit for the adrenalin-fuelled brand.
Rounds 4, 5 and 6 of the British Touring Car Championship took place over the weekend with current Champion Turkington showing dominant form. Claiming pole position in Saturday’s tight qualifying session, Colin went on to claim 3rd in Race 1 and a dominant victory in Race 2. An 11th place finish in the reversed grid final race of the day rounded off a fantastic weekend for Turkington who topped the table of points scored, and now sits second in the Driver’s Championship.
It was an incredible weekend of racing in the BTCC, confirming the series as one of the most exciting and unpredictable motorsport championships in the world. Fans roared trackside in support of the dramatic action as did the millions of home viewers watching live on ITV4.
Feeling elated at the progress of the Team BMR VW, Turkington expressed his delight at claiming a maiden win for the team who have worked tirelessly to develop a race winning
"I couldn’t be happier right now. It has been quite a journey from sealing the 2014 title and deciding to embark on this new project. I never once thought that this would be easy, but I believed in the strength and experience at Team BMR to give me a car capable of winning races. We are still pushing hard with development, but to get my first pole and win with the VW at this stage is just fantastic. The results this weekend are a huge reward for the team and we can be really proud of what has been achieved so far. I feel more at home in the car with each lap and my front wheel drive instinct is coming back. I will definitely enjoy this success but rest assured I will quickly turn my focus to Thruxton and keep pushing to find further improvements. We can only get better.”
The championship reignites in less than three weeks time at Thruxton in Andover, where Colin will arrive carrying 66kgs of success ballast as the current No. 2 in the championship standings.
The 7th, 8th and 9th rounds of the British Touring Car Championship recommences on 9 and 10th May at Thruxton and will be aired live on ITV4.
