A surprise for one man to remember

A Todds Leap day love story

A Todds Leap Day Love Story with a side order of Steak & Chips

With this 2016 being a Leap year it is off course tradition at Todds Leap to jump on the marketing bandwagon, by playing cupid and host to a spectacular proposal. So using the various social media platforms, we gave a big shout out to all the single ladies, all the single ladies who were interested in making the Leap at Todds Leap, by proposing to their future Hubbie, on our 500m Tandem Zip Line.

With our new tandem Zip Line ready to launch, our onsite restaurant ‘The Twisted Axle’ getting a full kit out and with the recent announcement of our 4 start grading from Tourism Northern Ireland, we had lots to shout about on this special leap day and so it was, plans got under way to host our very own ‘Todds Leap Day’. It was going to be perfect.

But alas, with only a few weeks before kick-off, we were left hanging, but not on our Zip Line. Not one single, single lady had got in touch. Where could we possibly have gone wrong? Surely amongst our 30K followers on Facebook & Twitter someone who’d seen it had been secretly planning of proposing to their loved one. Then the penny dropped…. secretly! The marketing team had messed up and we were shaking in our boots. We would have to admit defeat to the head honcho and run Todds Leap Day without the proposal.

We carried on with the plans to run the event, sent out the invites & started preparing the site for another great celebration. Aine Kearney from Tourism Northern Ireland kindly offered to come up and officially present us with our 4 star grading plaque and we really started to get excited when the catering staff started talking about food. With it being the year of Food & Drink in Northern Ireland we decided to really impress our guests and dignitaries by showcasing a cookery demonstration in our newly kitted out restaurant the Twisted Axle, complete with sparkly, shiny stainless steel kitchen and as for the Head Chef, Todds Leap Owner Ben, knew just the man for the job! His Nephew Brian Donnelly, a chef who has worked with Michele Roux, Gordon Ramsay and Gary Rhodes,

Brian and his girlfriend Jenny Holland, had fell in with some of the Todds Leap crew at a recent wedding (cough-cough, mine) and you know how these conversations go at 3 o’clock in the morning. All sorts of creative ideas were discussed as well as culinary menus to serve up to Todds Leap customers after a hard days Paintballing. But little did Brian (or most of us) know that Ben was having a very different conversation with Jenny, an Irish American girl who together with Brian runs the online food magazine sugarpiece.com.

Brian the Michelin star restaurant chef agreed to impress our guests by serving up some swanky steak and chips in our very own Michelin Tyre restaurant. But while we were all talking oven temperatures with Brian, Ben and Jenny were talking Leap year proposals.

Bens plan ran like clockwork, when Brian was up at Todds Leap preparing his kitchen for the cookery demonstration, Ben asked him to come up and test the new tandem zip line with Jenny. Just as they were ready to make the leap from Zip Line, the paparazzi sprung out of the bushes and Jenny got down on one knee to propose to Brian. Since Brian loves his Jenny, he said YES!! A good choice considering he was overlooking a 150’ drop.

So a happy ending for everyone & what better way to celebrate an extra day this Leap Year. A wedding engagement, a four star grading, a brand new kitchen, great music, great craic and off course food glorious food.

Brian & Jenny plan to marry this year. We just wonder where they will be having their Hen & Stag Party & if steak and chips will be on the wedding menu?
